When most students think of student accommodation, they think of halls of residence or living in a shared student house. At York College University Centre we do things a little differently. Prior to starting your higher education course with us, you ideally should have your living arrangements in place.
However, here you can find a list of local letting agents/providers, top tips, UCAS information on accommodation and maintenance loans, and more.

Accommodation and maintenance loans are often known simply as student loans, and they are just a fact of student life. They are supposed to cover your rent and bills, keep you fed, and cover all your other living expenses while you’re in university.
This can all add up, so it's important to be informed about them.
Visit UCAS to discover articles, tips and FAQs about accommodation and maintenance loans to ensure you're up to date before you begin your studies.
When choosing accommodation, there are lots of factors to consider, such as if you're going to live alone, with house mates, or a landlord, the type of accommodation you're looking for, how close it is to your place of study etc. It's important to make sure you do your research and take your time to review your options before signing contracts etc.
1.) Budget - it's important to consider your budget and what you can afford when choosing somewhere to live. Your maintenance loan will help cover rent and other costs, so make sure you've applied for this through Student Finance.
2) Distance - make sure that you choose an area that is easily commutable for you. Various providers offer a range of accommodation close to York College University Centre.
3.) Who will you live with? - you may choose to live alone, with house mates, or a landlord. If you decide to live with someone, make sure they are the right fit for you and don't feel pressured into choosing who to live with.
4.) Make a checklist - create a list of things to ask the landlord/accommodation provider when looking for accommodation. This could include asking about the WiFi/internet capabilities, noise levels in the area, how long the tenancy is for etc.
