Entry Requirements
No initial formal qualifications or experience are required, but students will be required to attend an initial screening interview in order to identify which ESOL course is most appropriate. If you have previously gained an ESOL qualification, you will be able to enrol to the next level.

ESOL courses are for people who are, or are intending to become, long-term UK residents and meet the eligibility criteria specified by the UK Government. Documentary evidence will be required. More details are available at the screening interview.

Improving knowledge of English will help students get jobs, gain promotion and generally improve their skills in the workplace.

Course units

There are 3 mandatory parts to each level of the courses:

  • Speaking and Listening (September start)
  • Reading (January start)
  • Writing (April start)

Assessments

There is an exam at the end of each element (Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing.) Exams can be taken throughout the duration, so students can sit them when they are ready.

£560 - £1350

The fees for this course can vary depending on funding eligibility, if you feel you may qualify for funding, please contact the Funding Team.

Course progression

Successful completion of one of these courses will allow students to progress on to the next level of the qualification.

ESOL Entry Level 1/2:

5th February 2024 - 22nd April 2024, Mondays, 9.30am-3.00pm

29th April 2024 - 1st July 2024, Mondays, 9.30am-3.00pm

ESOL Entry Level 3:

6th February 2024 - 23rd April 2024, Tuesdays, 9.30am-3.00pm

30th April 2024 - 2nd July 2024, Tuesdays, 9.30am-3.00pm

ESOL Level 1:

7th February 2024 - 24th April 2024, Wednesdays, 9.30am-3.00pm

1st May 2024 - 3rd July 2024, Wednesdays, 9.30am-3.00pm

All students will undertake an initial diagnostic assessment. These will run from Monday 4th September 2023, with opportunities to attend during the day or on an evening. Appointments will be made directly with each applicant to come into College and complete these once they have expressed an interest for the course. The assessment could take roughly an hour.

Study methods

Students acquire and improve skills in listening and speaking and as well as studying grammar and widening their vocabulary in different contexts. Students are helped to learn flexibly and independently using a variety of methods. They will be expected to complete homework tasks and activities outside the taught classes.

Lessons are 5 hours per week.

Facilities

Students have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning & Research Centre, study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.

Additional costs

All materials are provided for you to complete the course. However, some courses may require additional study from home, you may need access to a PC/laptop and suitable Wi-Fi to access teaching and learning. You will be made aware of any additional study time at the time of enrolment.
