Hair & Media Make-up Diploma Level 2
This is a creative course which will teach you the skills needed to have a career as a make-up artist or work in hairdressing, covering a variety of exciting units exploring the art of make-up and hair. This course runs across 3 days per week.
Entry requirements
You should have a minimum of 3 GCSE subjects at grade 3 and Maths or English at a grade 4 or above, or have a Level 1 qualification in Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy/Media Make-up.

- Health and Safety
- Client Care and Communication in the Beauty-related Industry
- Apply Make-up
- The Art of Photographic Make-up
- The Art of Dressing Hair
- Create an Image Based on a Theme within the Hair and Beauty Sector
- Theme Face Painting
- Body Art Design
- Colour and Lighten Hair
- Cut Women’s Hair
- Shampoo and Condition the Hair and Scalp
Additional activities:
- Competitions
- Work experience
- Visits from external speakers and demonstrators
- English or Maths (if you haven’t already achieved a grade 4 or above)
Additional Costs
All students are expected to purchase a practical kit and uniform, details of which will be provided during your advice and guidance discussion and induction.
Method of delivery
This course is predominantly a practical-based course. This means that the majority of your training will be delivered in a salon/workshop environment. You’ll be expected to complete theoretical knowledge through homework activities and directed learning, although some theory work will also be embedded into practical sessions. You will be required to complete tests and assignments as part of your study. You may be required to partake in online learning activities throughout the course, which are often led by employers and industry specialists.
How will I be assessed?
Practical and theoretical assessment.
Written questions, assignment work, questioning and external exams online are all part of the assessment process. You will be required to provide your own models.
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.
Your next steps
You could progress on to the Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair & Media Make-up Diploma Level 3. Employment in the hair and beauty industry, e.g. in a hairdressing salon or as a Make-up Consultant/Make-up Artist.
