Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Diploma (Direct Entry) Level 2
The course covers the whole range of motor vehicle engineering skills from routine maintenance to repair techniques. It is based on the Technical Certificate requirement of a Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship.
Entry requirements
A minimum of 3 GCSE subjects including grade 4 in English and Maths; or completion of the Vehicle Fitting Principles IMIAL Diploma Level 2.
What will I study?
Units include:
- Health and Safety Practices in Vehicle Maintenance
- Job Roles in the Automotive Industry
- Spark Ignition Engine Systems, Components and Operation
- Routine Vehicle Maintenance Processes and Procedures
- Introduction to Low Carbon Technologies in the Automotive Industry
- Vehicle Electrical Foundation Skills
- Removing and Replacing Engine Units and Components
- Removing and Replacing Chassis Units and Components
Additional costs
You will require the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and a toolbox. There is also a £50 contribution towards consumables for the course.
Method of delivery
You will typically be in College three days per week with time spent in the workshop undertaking practical activities and in the classroom studying theory work.
How will I be assessed?
The assessment is made up of two components which are set by the IMI:
- Practical tasks e.g. remove and replace engine components
- Online testing of theory knowledge
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.
Your next steps
Many of the students take up employment in the automotive industry and/or follow a motor vehicle apprenticeship. Alternatively, it is possible to progress on to the Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair IMIAL Diploma Level 3 with the correct entry requirements and successful interview (depending on number of applicants).
