Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Diploma Level 3
The course covers the whole range of motor vehicle engineering skills from routine maintenance to advanced repair techniques. It is based on the Technical Certificate requirement of a motor vehicle apprenticeship.
Entry requirements
You must have achieved the Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair. It is not possible to start this course with a GCSEs only profile.
What will I study?
Topics you will cover include:
- Diagnose and Repair Engine Units and Components
- Diagnose and Repair Electrical Units and Components
- Diagnose and Repair Chassis Units and Components
- Transmission and Driveline Units and Components
Additional costs
You will require the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and a toolbox. There is also a £50 contribution towards consumables for the course.
Method of delivery
You will typically be in College three days per week with time spent in the workshop undertaking practical activities and in the classroom studying theory work.
How will I be assessed?
The assessment is made up of three components which are set by the IMI:
- Practical tasks e.g. electrical diagnostics
- Online testing of theory knowledge
- Written assignment/coursework
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.
Your next steps
You would normally progress on to a job in the motor vehicle industry or on to an apprenticeship. You could also broaden your skill set by studying another course such as the Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations.
